Fast-growing brain tumours, including glioblastoma

High-grade gliomas

High-grade gliomas, including glioblastoma, are faster-growing tumours of the brain's glial cells. They always need prompt investigation and treatment.

Common symptoms

  • Headaches that are new or getting worse
  • Weakness, or changes in speech or vision
  • Seizures, confusion or changes in personality

These symptoms have many possible causes. If you are worried, speak to your doctor or get in touch.

How it's diagnosed

An MRI scan followed by surgery or a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis and its molecular features.

What treatment looks like

01

Surgery

Removing as much tumour as is safely possible, or a biopsy where surgery isn't advisable.

02

Radiotherapy and chemotherapy

Commonly given together after surgery, with the plan tailored to the tumour and to you.

03

Supportive neurology

Managing seizures, swelling and fatigue to protect quality of life.

Your plan depends on your diagnosis, scans and circumstances, and is agreed with you.
